Learning only begins with being able to
interface with the material. Interfacing happens in only several ways.
For instance, you can listen to a tape to learn, you can watch a
program, or you can read the material.
It is no wonder that the best folks who learn are the ones who read the
best. Those who are capable of assimilating more reading material both
in time (i.e. being able to read faster) and those who can effectively
take in the material are at an advantage at learning.
Speed Reading
Speed reading invokes thoughts of genius almost super humans with the
ability to read a novel in less time than many people spend reading the
daily newspaper. In fact these people are very normal but with the
advantage of having learned a technique for mastering the skill of speed
reading.
Your next challenge is to master the skill of speed reading. "Can I
really learn to speed read?" YES, YOU CAN - JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS IN
THIS ARTICLE!!
Then your next logical question is "How can I learn to speed read?" just
read on....you will be amazed!
Speed reading technique #1
Before you can learn the skill of speed reading you must first train
your eyes. Your eyes are situated in a set of muscles. And just like
any other muscle in your body you must work them and exercise them if
you look to learn the technique of speed reading. Eye movement is
critical to the whole learning process.
To train your muscle do the following exercise:
STEP 1: Take a book preferably something like a novel with no pictures -
however you can really use any material on hand. Speed reading doesn't
limit you to any particular reading material. The techniques will help
you read anything quickly.
STEP 2: Now scan each line of your reading material starting from the
left to the right. When scanning don't read the words. You simply want
to keep your eyes on the line steadily.
STEP 3: As soon as you finish one line move to the next line and do the
same.
STEP 4: When scanning each line try to ensure that you see each word.
Again don't read it
STEP 5: Continue with each line until you get to the end of the page
then go to the next page.
STEP 6: Scan each line as fast as you can
STEP 7: Continue the exercise for approximately 5 minutes.
You should come back to this exercise as often as you can. If you can go
longer than 5 minutes I encourage you to do so.
